How to check your position on Google?

First of all: make sure that you search for keywords, or maybe the full title of your page.

Don’t EVER search in Google for site:URL if you want to reach the listing on the search engine!!!

If you do that: then you will get a different Title and Description, than the ones you should have for your page. It’s just how Google works. Now you know. Remember not to ever do that. Moving on.

Don’t Ever Check from Your Browser!

Chromium-based browsers all have data that reach Google’s servers. Therefore, Google will know that it’s you, the site owner and will show you your positions on Google a lot differently than it shows first page listings to one of your customers.

Chromium browsers: Chrome, Opera, Firefox, Microsoft Edge (the new one).

This is something called “personalized search”.

You will see “fake” information. Because what you see is not what your customers see. You won’t actually know how well you rank on Google if you do this.

Don’t use Incognito!

If you read the text inside Chrome where it explains Incognito to you, you will see that certain parties STILL TRACK your activity. Therefore, search will still be personalized, you will still see fake info.

How do you escape this? How can you find your real positions on Google?

1) Use the Business Plan of Squirrly SEO, because it includes a super professional SERP Checker cloud service that shows you the real position you have for that keyword and that page every single day. It’s real, unbiased, un-personalized. It’s exactly what Internet users see on Google.

2) Use Google Search Console (included in Free and PRO Plans of Squirrly SEO). This will not show the exact position every day, but it will show you an average position, which is Okay if you’re not investing seriously in SEO.

3) Use a VPN service (a professional one like CyberGhost VPN) and a browser that has no user personalization for you as an individual — no user account, none of your usual extensions, etc. — This is a bit more complicated to setup.

So, the 3 variants I’ve presented before are the only ones you should use if you want to check positions on Google search.

And always follow the guidelines in this video, otherwise you will be using fake data, and will ruin your research.

Keep Ranking with Squirrly.
